Upcoming event | 23 September 2023
We are excited to be hosting our very first Dragon Boat Race event this year.
Outrun An Ambulance is back for 2023, with some new adaptions to help make it bigger and better!
Outrun An Ambulance is a virtual event that challenges YOU/YOUR team to conquer the mileage that an emergency ambulance covers in one shift by 1 mile. The ethos of Outrun An Ambulance remains the same for 2023, in the sense it remains inclusive to all abilities. The challenge can be achieved in whichever way suits you – run, cycle, swim, use a wheelchair, walk a dog, push a pram, row a boat or mix it up…YOU choose. You can set your own time-frame for your challenge, but we suggest within 3 months.
Outrun an Ambulance has an option for you whether it’s a New Year, New You fitness kick start among friends and colleagues or a bit of New Year fun! The best part about this challenge is that you can tailor it to your and or your team’s needs!

What’s New?
This year, we would like Outrun An Ambulance to appeal to a broader audience and encourage people to partake in groups and teams We would love to see more groups and teams join forces to complete the Outrun an Ambulance 2023 challenge and contribute to the growth of the Outrun An Ambulance community.
Did you know, since April 2022, our Community First Responders (CFRs) have been the first on scene to emergency 999 calls 88% of the time? As the value of our Volunteers grows by the day, we have included a mileage option of one of our CFRs Dacia Dynamic Response Vehicles (DRV). We have calculated the weekly average DRV mileage across our four counties and have included this as an option for you to challenge and conquer.
In addition to the newly added DRV Mileage, we will be including a 1000-mile option to honour the NHS’s 75th birthday inline with NHS Charities Together 1000 mile challenge, the NHS’s 75th Birthday will be celebrated this year on July 5th.
To encourage a sense of community, we’ve created an Outrun an Ambulance Facebook group where all participants can share their successes, journeys, and encourage other participants.
So, the question is… Can you go the extra mile for our staff and volunteers by taking on and conquering the Outrun An Ambulance challenge this year?
Step 1: Choose the distance you intend to conquer from the ambulance station mileage options on the next tab. Ensure the challenge you face is a stretching but achievable one.
Step 2 : Decide which activity (i.e. run, swim, cycle etc) you are going to cover your mileage in, set a timeframe that challenges you and plan to either go it alone or recruit a team.
Step 3 : Set up your fundraising page by the orange ‘Start Fundraising’ button.
Step 4: GO FOR IT! Everyone who completes their Outrun an Ambulance challenge and raises at least £1 will receive a special Certificate of Thanks. Those fundraising heroes who complete their challenge and raise £100 or more will also be sent a medal.
We would love it if you share your journey with us on social media with the hashtag #Icanoutrunanambulance #scas and tag us!

The NHS celebrates its 75th birthday on July 5th 2023, lets celebrate!
Celebrate the 75th birthday of the NHS by joining the nation’s biggest tea party this July and join the nation in an outpouring of love for our NHS by hosting your own fundraising tea party to support your local ambulance charity.
Host your own NHS Big Tea party whether it be at work, home, school or in the community. Recruit your colleagues, club members, family and friends to join your ‘Brew Crew’ and have a tea-fuelled fundraiser in aid of South Central Ambulance Charity.
You can take part on July 5th, the official 75th birthday of the NHS, or any day that week. Your fundraising can help to support the health and wellbeing of NHS staff, at time when they need it most. What better way to give back to those who have always looked after us?
So, grab your teapot, pop the kettle on and let’s brew a big pot of cash for your local ambulance charity.
Cheers Ma’Dears!
We have some of our charity branded resources available below for you now. These will help link your NHS Big Tea event to supporting South Central Ambulance Charity.
Additional downloadable resources are available from NHS Charities Together including some fabulous bunting, teapot centerpieces, a fundraising game, coasters, food cards, place name cards and signage.
Any further questions? Check out the NHS Big Tea FAQS or get in touch with us at info@sca-charity.org.uk
There are many professionally organised running, cycling and walking events across the country managed by third party providers. We do not have any charity places in these events however this should not stop you from choosing to support your local ambulance service charity. The bonus of having your own place is that there is no minimum sponsorship target, just raise as much as you can!
If you do choose to sign up to a third party event as an own place participant do get in touch with us and we will be delighted to support you on your fundraising journey.
Here are some examples of events we recommend. This is list is not exclusive.
Why not start your own fundraiser? It’s so easy to get involved, set up a fundraiser through our Enthuse page.
Please get in touch with the fundraising team and let us know what your are planning. Whether this be a walk, bake sale, fun run, festival, gala we can help you with:
Whatever you can dream up – we’ll support you all the way.
