Volunteering for SCAS Charity

SCAS Charity is currently managed by a small team of SCAS staff who are responsible for all aspects of the Charity.  As a department of SCAS the Charity benefits from wider support from teams such as the SCAS Finance, IT and Comms teams but to a large extent this team manages all of the everyday work of the Charity.

This inevitably means that resources are limited and we are always looking for volunteers willing to come and help us in a variety of different ways.  Becoming a Charity volunteer, like other volunteer roles, is a flexible commitment that can work around other activities an individual may have.  Hours can be agreed to suit you and various different roles are on offer.

Volunteering should be a mutually beneficial engagement between the Charity and the volunteer and as such we commit to a number of responsibilities to each other and to our Charity. To find out more view and download our volunteer handbook.

Volunteering for SCAS Charity

A key part of our fundraising is to attend community events and to engage with people in our local communities. The Charity usually organises one or two major events each year but will also attend a wide variety of events organised by others. Being an event or community fundraising volunteer would primarily involve being available at weekends to attend fetes, fairs and county shows, to work alongside our Community First Responders, Charity staff and Community Engagement team and to chat to the public about our work. Also to collect donations and give out free merchandise and to show children our education ambulance. In addition community fundraising volunteers might be asked to come along to events such as a golf day to support organisation on the day; help out at engagement events at a local supermarket, take part in a bucket collection at a major event or supporting another volunteer or member of staff giving a talk to a local community group such as Rotary or WI. If in time you are interested in giving talks you would be given assistance and guidance in doing that.

Collecting tins across the SCAS area generate important funds for the Charity. Handing out and collecting tins back in can sometimes be time consuming and we are looking for people who are willing to give a few hours each week to go out in their local community and find places that will be willing to house one of our tins and then manage the relationship going forward. This would involve keeping an up to date spreadsheet of where tins have been placed and when, recording when they are collected back, counting funds and then recording and banking those donations.

The Charity is based in Thame and we are looking out for volunteers who can help us in a variety of ways. We need to have people we can call on who are willing to come in to the office and put together packs of merchandise and information to be sent out to our CFRs; staff and community volunteers to use at events. This can get quite busy during the Summer months but is much quieter during the winter when there are fewer events. We also need you to send out t-shirts and collecting tins to individuals who are taking part in events or challenges to raise funds for us. We also need you to keep a note of stock levels, helping us to reorder supplies when needed.

In the office we also need help in counting funds from collecting boxes that are brought back in, help with filing or other admin tasks like scanning in documents. If you have specific office based skills that you think would help us then please let us know.

We love it when people decided to create their own event to raise funds and it is always fantastic to see the ideas people come up with.  We are here to help you do that and to support you with your volunteering and fundraising.
