If so, have you considered becoming a Patient Transport Volunteer with South Central Ambulance Service?
Our Patient Transport Service helps hundreds of people access hospital services every day of the year. A dedicated and professional team of Patient Transport Volunteers uses their own cars to transport patients who experience difficulty travelling to non-emergency but essential hospital appointments.
Our volunteers come from many backgrounds but share a desire to give something back to their communities. No previous experience is required—just a friendly, caring attitude and some spare time. The role is completely flexible, so you can volunteer as little or as much as you like while fitting it around other commitments.
What we offer
- Mileage allowance of 50p per mile

What you will need
- Be aged over 18
- A valid UK driving licence with no more than three penalty points
- Access to a four-door car
- Be prepared to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
- Be able to use a mobile phone
The application process
As part of your application, you will be invited to attend:
- Occupational health screening
- A basic driver assessment
- A volunteer induction, where you can meet other volunteers and support staff
